Marriage as a Business
Amnaesia Rating – 84%

Banky Da Silva played by Ramsey Noah is involved in a serious car accident and ends up in the hospital with amnesia where Dr Dammy played by Nse Ikpe Etim is his doctor. Doctor and patient grow very close to the point where they are soon involved in a torrid love affair. It is to the extent that when he is released from the hospital the doctor becomes a regular visitor at his home, cooking his meals and keeping him company. Halle Davis played by Ini Edo is an out of work desperate for work actress who goes on audition after audition and ends up landing a lead role after claiming her fiancé is Banky and with the promise that the will bankroll the whole movie. How will she get herself out of the big mess and web of lies she has entangled herself in?

Nepotism & Politics in Nollywood

In this movie we see how bad actresses can really get cast in a movie. Halle goes to an audition and loses the role to a bad actress and suspects it is Nepotism. Later we see Alhaji played by Ali Nuhu who is investing in Desmonds film pushing for his wannabe actress (Kizzy Kanu) to get the lead role despite the fact that she can barely speak English and reads her lines dreadfully. Halle soon wisens up to the game and claims that her fiancé is a rich man that could possibly sponsor the movie but only if she gets a lead role. Her plan works. Later at home she panics and tells her roommate,

“I said I done die. You no dey hear? I was so desperate for a role eh and the things just kept on coming out my mouth that I couldn’t even stop it”

The lead role is delegated to sublead much to her chagrin. She yells at the producer,

“What are you saying you are giving the lead role to some rookie simply because she hooked you up with some moneybags?”

Marriage as a Business Deal

When Bankole’s father hears that Bankole wants to marry Halle he is mortified. He sees marriage as something to enhance business and Halle does not make the grade for him. He tells his son,

“Think Bankole think. Marriage and business are somewhat intertwined. Your choice of picking a spouse can either enhance your business, make it stand out or kill it and I am in a position to tell you that phoney of a girl is a business killer… She’s got no stock, no pedigree”

Bad Actress in a Great Role

Kizzy Kanu was cast as a bad actress attempting to audition for a role and reading very badly. What can I say except to say that this was the perfect role for her. She played it very convincingly. She even sang badly which was very comical.

Emem Isong’s Royal Arts Academy

The cast in this movie was huge. What I’ve listed under “starring” is not even a 1/6 of the cast that was listed. Emem Isong’s Royal Arts Academy is really exposing its students to the movie world. People that may have otherwise been unable to get a chance and I think that its great. Kudos to Emem. I have been getting emails about the Royal Arts Academy. If you are interested check out the Royal Arts Academy Blog here:  The school is It is situated at No 4 Adebisi Street, off Olufemi Street, Off Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos and is open from 9am to 5pm. Nollywood Forever says What?

Ah ah what kind of doctor puts herself on a patients bed and starts falling asleep? Say What?

How did the doctor not have any clue that Banky attended the event with Halle when it was widely publicised in the media? Say What? And why didn’t we see anything about her reaction to all the reports before that about this random girl claiming to be engaged to her fiance?

I enjoyed this movie immensely. It was brilliantly cast and acted. I did however feel like the last 20 minutes could have been done it 5. It was way too long with uncountable dialogue less scene, I liked the storyline It was similar to some of The Game but executed in a much better fashion. A definite thumbs up.

Tell Us What You Think!

  1. in my opinion i think this movie is not up to the rating u gave it,i mean the whole acting, directing, and technicality of the movie is not something that should be given an 84,i don't think is was good enough to have that rating, well we are people with different opinions.

I gotta say I agree with flint.

I was soooo excited about seeing this movie, only for it to fall below expectations. Liked the twist, but after some time, the story lost its appeal. And worst of all, no offense to Ini but her acting was pretty a bland apart from a few times when she was shouting.

I'm rather surprised it got this rating, but to each his own I guess

Here's to hoping I'll Take My Chances is better

  3. @TopeTohBaddd In terms of it being an Emem movie yes I expected more simply because she has done better in the past, but on the whole I think it is a great movie and I enjoyed watching it.

To Nollywoodforever.. .about the questions. She never knew he attended the party because it was something she read in his diary. The story about Halle and Banky happened before the doctor fell in love with him.The story about Halle and Banky was a story she read from his diary, if you understand what I mean.Ihope this was an answer to your questions.:D

  5. @IfeomaC.Anene Yes you are right, this comes out close to the end but I forgot to delete it from the notes I made. Thanks!
