Mama (Patience Ozokwor) has arrived back in the village from America after visiting her daughter and puts on airs and graces as though she has been out of the country for decades rather than one year. On her return she does not contact her best friend or eldest daughter which leaves them resentful. Her friend Chinyere is envious of how she now parades around the village and despite smiling and joking with her spreads rumours around the village about how she is too proud of herself. She also starts putting pressure on her young daughters to find men to settle down with so she too can reap the benefits as Bridget has from her son in law.
UK based African Voice Newspaper unveiled the much-awaited shortlist of nominees for the 2011 edition of its African Film Awards, also known as the Afro Hollywood Awards. The nominees on the shortlist also feature heavyweights such as Tonto Dike, Halima Abubakar, Toyin Aimaku, Jamila Umar Nagudu, Funke Adesiyan, Lekan Oladiipo and Peter Edochie contesting in various other categories. The winners in each awards category, who will be attending the prestigious annual awards in London, will be announced at a special ceremony on Sunday, October 9, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
Prince Derek played by Yul Edochie is heartbroken because the only woman that he ever loved got pregnant and died at childbirth. The circumstances surrounding the pregnancy are unknown. His kinsmen are demanding that he get married soon but it is the furthest thing from his mind. Chioma played by Mercy Johnson is married to a drunk who appears to be impotent. They are childless and both frustrated by it. Ogugua is Chioma’s 15 year old niece. She is being sexually abused by her father and soon her mother and aunt hatch a shocking plan that only adds trouble to the young girl’s condition.
Nollywood Movies Review: Charles’ girlfriend Lisa played by Halima Abubakar believes that he works for Chevron but in reality he is a pauper who is deceiving her. He even has her believing that the friend that he squats with is his houseboy. In reality it is his friend’s uncle’s house and he is broke. Charles played by Nonso Diobi is a compulsive liar and his lies extend to other girls who also become his girlfriends. He even finds himself in a clothes shop and telling a girl that he is Ray Martin a well known stylist to the stars as well as that he owns the shop. In actuality the shop also belongs to his friend’s uncle.
Nollywood Review: Chioma and Austin have been suffering and living in poverty until Chioma secures a contract that catapults them into comfortable living. Benedict has a history of cheating and spending extravagantly on random babes and so his wife makes him take a vow of faithfulness, a guarantee that he will not cheat on her if he wants any part of the money. Despite promising to his wife and himself that he will not cheat temptation is thrust before him and it is not long before he is up to his old tricks.
Nollywood Movie Review: Angolo girls tells the story of a bunch of prostitutes headed by the Baroness, played by Chika ike. We see all of their money grabbing, cheating shenanigans. Angolo, means Anglo, which means white. Their main aim is to snare white men, but in the process they will make do with any man that comes along. Stella Maris is married to a white man but brings in her Nigerian lover as a “driver” and sleeps with him willy nilly in her matrimonial home. Baroness explains Angolo to mean “Angolo is a white man who has soooo much money to spend in pounds and dollars.”
Whitney, played by Tonto Dikeh is married to businessman Charles, played by John Dumelo and they have one son. Throughout the course of their marriage she has had to put up with his cheating ways. It is only when long lost friend Alex, played by Muna Obiekwe comes into his life that his philandering ways appear to end. Whitney believing that Alex is a calming influence on her husband allows him to move into their home. Little does she know that Alex is taking advantage of her husband in the worse way.
Ahmed, played by Ramsey Noah meets Gracie, played by Chika Ike one night when she is out drunk on the street after spending the night out by herself at a bar. He comes to her rescue by putting her in his car and taking her home. Their paths happen to collide again, this time at a fast food joint. Ahmed is too scared to approach Gracie as he believes that Bright, played by Chigozie Atuanya is her boyfriend. Once Ahmed does his research and finds out that Bright is in fact just a friend he begins to pursue Gracie relentlessly, however there is a problem he is Muslim and she is Christian.
Richard (Desmond Elliot) and Vivian (Oge Okoye) have been married for 5 years and despite wanting children have not managed to have any in this period. Vivian is a restless housewife that desires to go into business so that she can make big money like her friend Barbara (Halima Abubakar). Richard however is outraged that she wants to concentrate her efforts on anything other that producing a child, but eventually ends up giving into her demands and raises the upfront capital for her to open a boutique. Vivian’s greed becomes insatiable and that combined with Barbara’s bad influence threatens to rock the marriage.
Jane is desperate to have a baby and believes that if she acts like she is already with child she will “take in.” She buys baby clothes and in her room she has a dolly in a cradle that she rocks on a daily basis as if it is a real child.
